Announcing our Spring 2024 event...

Updated: Apr 1

We’re excited to share that plans are afoot for our upcoming event, titled Magistras et Majestas: Education and the Glory of God, on Saturday, May 18 from 8:30 to 12:30. The morning will include worship, instruction, fellowship, and discussion—all important elements of good education—as we seek to give participants a taste of what Civitas is all about.

After a chapel service, we will present a series of brief lessons taught by five of our gifted and passionate teachers.

  • John Sundet (B.A. Music, M.Div. Arts and Religion) will speak on deepening our worship through biblical literacy and understanding of music.

  • Laurie Warren (M.Ed. Elementary Education) will show us how algebra allows a glimpse into the mind of the Creator.

  • Eleanor Georges (B.A. English) will seek to persuade us of the soul-stirring potential of eloquent and logical composition.

  • Joseph Leake (Ph.D. Medieval Studies) will demonstrate how philology illuminates the material and immaterial world, past and present.

  • Marty Georges (B.S. Aeronautics and Astronautics, M.A. Philosophy) will walk us through a classic engineering problem that bespeaks the order and goodness of creation.

Through their six different disciplines, each teacher will reflect on the way pursuit of knowledge reveals the majesty of God and how the liberal arts teach us to surrender ourselves in worship to our Creator.

(And if that sounds like a lot of instruction with no intermission, not to worry! We’ve planned a coffee/tea break midway through.)

We hope you’ll come with questions—Why should Christians care about education? What is classical education?—because after the lessons we’ll hold a round table Q&A session with the teachers. Finally, we’ll all head down to the fellowship hall for a cold luncheon, seasoned with jolly discussion and the spice of fellowship.

Our goal is for this event to be both informational and inspirational. It will be a chance to sample the kind of teaching Civitas does and get a taste of the Civitas experience. Even more importantly, we hope the event will be encouraging and enriching to the spiritual life of all who attend. For if we are discipuli Christi—disciples of Christ—we are all students, wherever we are in life.

Who do we hope will attend this event? Anyone who is interested in the mission and work of Civitas, whether or not they have prospective students in their house.

If you’re a parent (or student) looking for support in your homeschooling journey, this event is for you!

If you support the work of Civitas through prayer, this event is also for you!

If you would like to see The Civitas School touch the lives of many children and young people, this event is definitely for you!

Registration for this event is free with a suggested donation of $10 to defray costs of food and materials. You can find the event details and registration link here.

We’re excited about this event and hope to see you there!
